MAKE RUSINGA GREEN

Plant. Nurture. Protect. Inspire. KWEPU’s long-term environmental initiative combines tree nurseries, education, planting and responsibility for tree survival.

The KWEPU Tree Nursery & Tree Planting Initiative was born from a simple but ambitious vision: to make Rusinga green.

Tree nursery

Young people and community members learn about tree types, seedlings, soil preparation and care before planting.

Schools & young people

KWEPU engages children in practical planting so environmental responsibility can grow with the next generation.

Community stewardship

The same approach extends into communities: plant a tree, care for it and protect it as it grows.

From nursery to long-term care

Once seedlings are ready, KWEPU takes them into schools and communities for planting. Children and community participants are reminded that planting is only the beginning: young trees need continued care if they are to survive and mature.

Nursery→ Environmental education→ Planting→ Tree care→ Greener communities

Success is not simply how many seedlings are planted, but how many trees survive, mature and benefit future generations.

Growing environmental responsibility

KWEPU especially values working with young people because environmental knowledge learned early can influence a lifetime of choices. The vision is to raise young environmental ambassadors who understand different trees, participate in restoration and carry that responsibility into their families and communities.

MAKE RUSINGA GREEN

Partnership can help expand the nursery, improve water access, strengthen environmental education, increase seedling production and extend school- and community-based planting.
