Building a greener and more resilient future
Our Home
KWEPU works on Rusinga Island in Homa Bay County, western Kenya, within the Lake Victoria region. The island is home to vibrant communities whose livelihoods and wellbeing are closely connected to the lake and the local environment.
We work alongside women, young people, schools and communities to respond to local challenges through environmental restoration, food security, sustainable livelihoods and community empowerment.

Rusinga is surrounded by the waters of Lake Victoria, which sustain livelihoods, food systems and local culture.
Fishing is a vital livelihood for many households, supporting families and local markets.
Rusinga’s hills, wetlands and rich biodiversity provide opportunities for conservation, restoration and climate action.
Strong, resilient communities, with a rich culture and traditions, are at the heart of KWEPU’s work.
By working together, we can support healthier environments, stronger livelihoods and brighter futures for Rusinga’s communities.
